MUSIC FOR THE RISING MOON
In celebration of our launch we have created The High Moon Rises Playlist. A showcase of some of our favorite songs from Austin musicians, past and present. Live music has played such a big role in shaping our lives here in Austin, and we wanted to share some of that with you. We hope you enjoy. Cheers!
We also want to take this moment to tell you about something we plan on doing more of in the future. When we started making some of our first playlists, we found it hard to pick our favorites from certain albums. Some albums are just so good that you want to share every song, you know? So we thought, why not?
We have a rule in our house, if we love an album from beginning to end we buy it on vinyl. In one aspect, it’s another way to support the artists that we love. And it also creates an intention of engaging with the music in a more visceral way. Listening to vinyl is about the process, a ritual that pulls you into the moment, establishing a connection with the music and your space. Putting on a record is a deliberate act of slowing down which requires a bit more effort, but it’s also something that creates a stronger connection to the music.
We’ll be sharing our collection with you periodically. Some things you may be very familiar with. Others may be totally new to you. Our hope is that if you love it in its entirety as much as we do, you’ll purchase it on vinyl, or even digitally. Any way you choose, is another way to support artists in their work.
And we are totally here for that.
In keeping with the theme of supporting local music, our first album showcase will be The Black Pumas.
We saw the Black Pumas live in 2019 at the Mohawk in Austin. Neither of us were really familiar with their music at the time, but friends were going to the show, so we checked out their album. We instantly knew they were something special. When we went to buy the tickets, they had already sold out and the only tickets left were VIP. We knew that we would totally regret not going to that show so we caved and bought the VIP tickets. Afterwards, we ran out to buy the vinyl in time to take it to the show hoping to have it signed. They were awesome and super humble and just amazing individuals and artists to meet. Sitting up on that balcony at night in an open air venue, staring at downtown and listening to what was to become one of our favorite bands of all time, was a magical experience and one that I’ll never forget.
We hope that if you love it, you’ll go out and buy the vinyl like we did. It’s one of my prized possessions (you can see it wiggle its way into our High Moon tote bag in our merch shop). Enjoy!
